The key thrust of the UAS for agriculture is to create an interactive time series nutrient map and crop health indices mapping to support improved farming practices and interpret the maps for the benefit of the small holder farmers in reducing their cost of doing business and establishing market linkages with input suppliers and tractor owners.

The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle won is the Parrot BlueGrass – a multipurpose Agricultural Drone which is built to help monitor crop health , check for missing plants, perform livestock monitoring amongst other functions- with the Sequioa multispectral sensor , the drone designed to achieve the following:

• Identify pests, disease and weeds. Optimize pesticide usage and crop sprays through early detection.

• Provide data on soil fertility and refine fertilization by detecting nutrient deficiencies. Help with land management and whether to take agriculture land in or out of production or rotate crops etc.

• Count plants and determine population or spacing issues.

• Estimate crop yield.

• Measure irrigation. Control crop irrigation by identifying areas where water stress is suspected. Then, make improvement to land areas such as install drainage systems and waterways based on the multispectral data.

• View damage to crops from farm machinery and make necessary repairs or replace problematic machinery.

• Survey fencing and farm buildings.

• Establish market linkages with tractor owners and input suppliers.

The aim of Orbital Solutions is to provide a one stop shop of information and data needs for agriculture and agribusiness in Nigeria.
